The Department of Agriculture maintained 33 Nos of plantation/farms nurseries in different parts of the territory to produce better seeds, planting materials and also to provide necessary demonstration in growing different crops systematically and by using latest technology for the benefit of the farmers.

The department shoulders full responsibility of procurement, transportation and distribution of all kinds of agricultural inputs to different parts of these Islands through a network of 53 Nos. sale depots
The details of activities done by these farms/plantations are as follows
The Horticulture station Haddo was established during the year 1950 with an objective of raising different kinds of plants arecanut seedlings vegetable seedlings and ornamental plants. This station also serve as a transit nursery wherein plantation materials from mainland and other Departmental farms are stocked, maintained and distributed to various zones and cultivators. This farm presently owing a total of 2.5 hect.
2. COCONUT PLANTATION,CARBYN'S COVE
This plantation cum Nursery was established during the year 1962 in an area of 3.5 hect land. Here in the nursery quality coconut seedlings are raised and distributed to the farmers. For this purpose quality seed nuts from selected mother palms of the departmental plantations of Middle Andaman and Nicobar group of Islands are being brought and sown here to raise seedlings.
This station was established during 1959 in an area of 4 hect land and was extended to 30 hect.
1. To device suitable method of Soil erosion/control and to involve suitable cropping pattern which contribute to conservation of
soil.
2. Study and recommend suitable grasses and legumes for soil conservation.
3. To study and recommend various trees, spices and method of a forestation of the denuded and highly eroded land.
4. To introduce horticulture crops, plantation, spices vegetables and economical crops for adoptive trails and distribution seeds
and planting materials to cultivators.
4. SEED MULTIPLICATION FARM, BLOOMSDALE
This farm was established during the year 1955. The total area of the farm is 6.9 hect. In this farm Multiplication of improved seeds of paddy and cultivation of vegetables, pulses and oilseeds during Rabi season as a second crop followed by paddy for collection of selected seeds for distribution to cultivators, besides field crops, arecanut, spices, fruits etc.
R.C.D.Farm, Jirkatang was established during the year 1971 in an area of 9.56 Hect land. This farm services as a Research-Cum-Demonstration Centre on cultivation of spices and coffee. There is also a nursery in this farm for production of planting materials particularly spices, coffee seedlings/cuttings.
The Progeny Farm Jirkatang was established during the year 1976 in an area of 27.3hect land with an objective to raise different kinds of Horticulture crops spices and plantation crops for adoptive trails and multiplication of planting materials for distribution to cultivators.
This farm was established during the year 1960 in an area of 2.70 hect. Land. The main objective of this farm is to conduct plot trails on cultivation of Coffee and cocoa and demonstration of spices and plantation crops. The entire area of this farm is covered under crop like spices, coffee etc.
8. COCONUT PLANTATION, HAVELOCK.
The Coconut Plantation, Havelock was established during the year 2960 in an area of 3.75 hect. Land with an objective of demonstrating the improved method of coconut cultivation and also in collection of seed nuts for raising seedlings for local distribution.
9.AGRICULTURE FARM NEIL ISLAND
This farm was initially established by the then Rehabilitation department in the year 1969. The main objective of this farm is to demonstrate improved methods of cultivation of different crops for the benefit of farmers settled in this Islands.
10.SPICES DEMONSTRATION FARM ADAZIG BAY BARATANG.
This farm was established during the year 1980 in an area of 3 hect. land as a demonstration unit to depict improved method of spices cultivation to local farmers.
11.COCONUT PLANTATION MARK BAY
This plantation was established during the year 1959 with an area of 22.20 hect. with an objective of collecting selected seed nuts for departmental farms and bulk nuts for meeting public demand and the requirement of departmental oil processing unit.
12.COCONUT PLANTATION LALAJI BAY
This Plantation was established in an area of 48.02 hect. land bearing during the year 1959. The main objective of the plantation is the collation of seed nuts for raising seedlings and also bulk nuts for meeting the public demand and the requirement of oil Processing Unit at Port Blair.
13 . SOIL CONSERVATION DEMONSTRATION CENTRE ,RANGAT
This demonstration center was established during the year 1959 in an area of 2..0 hect land and extended further to a total of 5.06 hect land .Different kinds of soil conservation measures namely bench terracing contour trenching etc were demonstrated in this center to adopt effective Soil Conservation measures on sloppy land. Besides suitable cropping method were also devised covering the area with plantation crops spices and fruit plants.
14. COCONUT PLANTATION CHITRAKUT
The coconut plantation Chitrakud was started during the year 1957 in an area of 11.33 hect land with an objective of serving the coconut plantation as a demonstration center on improved method of coconut cultivation. There is also one nursery in this plantation for raising coconut and other seedlings.
During 1961 M.P.Farm Panchwati was started as a demonstration center for cultivation of different kinds of fruits plants by applying improved techniques and also for multiplying different kinds of planting materials for local distribution . The total area of 8.69 hect. land covered under plantation crops, spices, fruits, vegetable, root crops and field crops.
This coffee farm Panchwati was established during the year 1959 with an aim of conducting pilot trails on cultivation of coffee and to study potentiality of undertaking coffee cultivation on commercial scale in these islands. Out of total area of 12.90 hect land cultivable area of 5.90 hect land is covered under coconut, arecanut, coffee etc.
This plantation was established in the year 1957 as a demonstration center for coconut in an area of 9.9 hect land .Nuts collected from the plantation are either disposed off to the public or converted into copra.
18. COCONUT PLANTATION SHATIPUR
This plantation was established during the year 1962 with an area of 10.00 hect land as a demonstration center. Improved method of coconut cultivation is depicted through demonstration among cultivators to enable them to adopt the same method in their holdings .Selected seed nuts collected from the plantation are used for raising seedlings and bulk nuts are disposed off at departmental rate.
Seed Multiplication Farm Nimbudera was established during 1968 by the Rehabilitation Department as a Research –cum-Demonstration Centre and was taken over by the Agriculture Department during 1974.Out of the total area of 26.20 hect. land about 9.56 hect is hilly land. This hilly land is utilized for Horticulture, Plantation and spices crops and the flat land is utilized for production of quality seeds of paddy , pulses and vegetables. Adoptive trails of newly developed quality seed varieties are conducted in the field and varieties multiplied are distributed among the farmers. Demonstration of different aspects of crop production technology also conducted in the farm to show the impact of new technology
20. COCONUT PLANTATION POKKADERA
This nursery was established during the year 1987 in an area of 8 hect land and is covered under coconut, fruits and spices. This nursery also serve as a demonstration center on improved method of cultivation of coconut in saline reclaimed land. Different varieties of coconut seedlings were developed here and distributed to people according to their demands.
21. SPICES DEMONSTRATION FARM, KALIGHAT
The Spices Demonstration Farm Kalighat was established during the year 1982 in an area of 10 hect land. The effective area of 4 hect is utilized for cultivation of plantation crops fruits and spices. This farm is also serving as a demonstration center for all these crops.
22. SPICES DEMONSTRATION-CUM-SOIL CONSERVATION CENTRE, V.S.PALLY.
This center was established during the year 1969 in an area of 1.00 hect and the area was further extended to 10.50 hect land during 1981. The main objective of this center is to demonstrate various Soil Conservation measures in the hilly land allotted to the farmers.
23. COCONUT PLANTATION , V.S.PALLY
This plantation was established by the department during the year 1967 in an area of 10.00 hect. land as a demonstration Unit on improved method of coconut cultivation. The total area is separated into 4 different plots. One block is for grown up coconut palms and other three blocks are for raising and developing new seedlings. Other coconut palms, plants like banana, guava, lemon etc are also growing here.
24. MULTIPURPOSE FARM,KERALAPURAM
This farm was established during the year 1961 in an area of 10.00hect. land with an objective of multiplying different kinds of seeds/ planting materials for meeting the requirement of cultivators. This farm also serves as a demonstration center to motivate the farmers to adopt scientific method of cultivation in their plantation of spices and Horticulture Crops.
25.AGRICULTURE FARM[ PROGENY FARM] ,R.K PUR
This farm was established during the year 1991 in an area
of 10.00 hect land. The main objective of this farm is production
of different kinds of planting materials to meet the local requirement.
This farm is also serving as a progeny orchard of various plantation,
spices and fruits and depicts the improved method of cultivation of
these crops.
26. SEED MULTIPLICATION FARM, LITTLE ANDAMAN
This farm was established by the rehabilitation department and was taken over by Agriculture Department during the year 1984. Different kinds of seeds are multiplied in this farm and distributed to farmers are also cultivated here.
27. MULTIPURPOSE FARM CAR NICOBAR
Multipurpose Farm, Car Nicobar was established during the year 2959-60 in an area of 5.1 hect. land. This farm is serving as a demonstration center to provide technical knowhow in cultivating various Agricultural crops and to encourage the tribal to undertake cultivation of such in their holdings crops like vegetables, fruits, spices etc. area producing here in large quantity for meeting the need of tribal population.
28.COCONUT PLANTATION, AUKCHUNG CAR NICOBAR
This plantation was established during the year 1960 in an area of 22.33 hect land. The main purpose of this plantation is to provide knowledge to tribal on improved method of raising coconut plantations. Selected seed nuts are collected and used for raiding healthy seedlings. Nut collected are either used to meet the requirements of the public or converting the nuts to copra for making oil.
29. SPICES PROGENY ORCHARD KATCHAL
This farm was established under Centrally Sponsored Scheme during the year 1978 in an area of 35 hect. land .The main objective of this farm is to multiply the planting materials of spices. Besides spices, coconut, fruits, vegetable etc are also grown in the farm.
30.COCONUT PLANTATION MIYAYU, KATCHAL
This plantation was established during the year 1959 in an area of 6.00 hect land as a demonstration center to encourage the farmers to adopt scientific method of coconut cultivation in there holdings. Seed nuts collected from selected mother palms are used to raise better quality seedlings and bulk nuts to convert as copra.
31COCONUT PLANTATION JANSIN, KATCHAL
This plantation was established during the year 1959 in an
area of 13.00 hect land with a dual purpose of demonstration improved
method of coconut cultivation as well as collection of seed nuts from
selected palms to raise healthy seedlings for distribution.
This farm
was established during the year 1964 in an area of 2.5 hect land as a
demonstration center on improved method of cultivation of plantation
crops, spices, fruit and vegetables. This farm also serves as a
production unit of various crops particularly fruits and vegetables for
meeting the local requirement.
33. PROGENY ORCHARD-cum-NURSERY FARM CAMPBELL BAY
This farm was established during the yea 1976-77 by the Rehabilitation Department in an area of 6.0 hect land and taken over by Agriculture Department during 1984. This farm is situated at 7 Km, Campbell Bay. The main aim of the farm is to display improved method of cultivations well as to raise healthy planting materials of various crops for the benefit of settlers there seedlings of various crops are raised and distributed among farmers.
